We cordially invite you to attend the 3th Annual Great Lakes Region Diaspora Conference 2017– Women and Men in Peace building. The conference will be held at the Institute of Social Studies(ISS): Kortenaerkade 12, 2518 AX- Den Haag on the 10th and 11thNovember, 2017.
The Great Lakes Region in Africa (Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo) is one of the most vulnerable and unstable regions in the world. In the region armed conflicts have evolved for decades and human rights violations are commonplace.
Women in particular have become victims of the ongoing conflicts. Violence against women has become a deliberate strategy of war. However, women are not just victims, they also play an important social role, they contribute to peace and stability. To create a future in a war torn society, women are an indispensable basis.
With this conference, we aim to strengthen trust between men and women from this region and among women themselves so that they are able to work together for peace. We will discuss questions like: “What do gender relations look like in the Great Lakes region? How does gender play a role during conflict? How can men and women find a common ground to build peace? How can women and men in the diaspora play a relevant role in achieving peace in the Great Lakes Region?”
Join and contribute in the workshops, debates and speeches on a peaceful and inclusieve future for Great Lakes Region.
