Time: 12:00-13:30
Location: WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform
Address: Korte Poten 9b, The Hague

Dear colleague,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to a new knowledge session at WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform on Thursday, March 23 from 12.00h to 13.30h: How can humanitarian law of war strengthen the Women, Peace and Security agenda?

In armed conflict, not just anything is allowed. In fact, armed conflict is governed by humanitarian law of war (also known as international humanitarian law): it determines what means and methods of war are and are not allowed. So that civilians and persons no longer participating in the conflict are protected as much as possible. Humanitarian law of war is therefore an interesting legal framework for the protection of women, girls and gender non-conforming people (as well as men and boys) in conflict, one of the pillars of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

How can humanitarian law of war be used to broaden the Women, Peace and Security protection pillar so that women and girls are protected from all forms of violence? And how can we use humanitarian law of war to give greater legal force to the Women, Peace and Security agenda and National Action Plans? This is what we discuss with Major Sander Agterhuis, gender advisor at the Ministry of Defense.

Signatories of the Dutch National Action Plan 1325 and interested members of WO=MEN are welcome to attend this session. Registration is possible until no later than March 20 COB at a.dekker@wo-men.nl. Be on time, due to the limited number of places. Lunch will be provided during the session.
