CCSD Policy Paper: Urgent post-truce actions to build trust in Northern Syria

The Center for Civil Society and Democracy (CCSD) – has been closely assessing, and responding to, the events in Northern Syria. The policy note is a summary of CCSD's perspective on the fallout from the military action and truce, how the EU can position itself to support peace and stability, and some potential practical avenues of cooperation.

The headline is that there is an urgent opportunity and need to build peace (A) between Kurd and Arab communities, and (B) with local and national institutions, encompassing (1) temporary processes to manage conflict impacts (e.g., handling of dead bodies and housing, land and property rights), (2) facilitate small-scale humanitarian actions (e.g., limitations on civilian movement), and (3) establishing the building blocks of local inclusive governance (e.g., enhancing registration processes for individuals associated with the Syrian Democratic Forces and self-administration).
