Description of your organization/institution
PAX is the largest peace organization in the Netherlands. We work to protect civilians against acts of war, to end armed violence and to build inclusive peace. We work in conflict areas worldwide, together with local partners and people who, just like us, believe that everyone has a right to a dignified life in a peaceful society.
Description of your main WPS related activities
STRENGTHENING CIVIL COURAGE: The alliance approach to gender is captured by two interrelated tracks to ensure the Strengthening Civil Courage programme is gender inclusive and where possible gender transformative: mainstreaming a gender perspective into all programmes, policies and processes (gender-sensitive programming); and dedicated gender-specific programming with a focus on transformative change. The second track aligns with the Strengthening Civil Courage intervention strategy ‘to pursue gender equality’ (see chapter 6); seven country programmes include a stand-alone specific objective on gender equality. While making a distinction between the two tracks, we acknowledge that gender-sensitive programming ultimately contributes to gender equality – indirectly rather than directly. Specific output indicators are connected to: A) Strengthen women’s participation and influence; B) Promote peaceful masculinities; C) Support CRSV victims and their claims. LEADERS OF PEACE: To contribute to an enabling environment for women’s and girls’ participation and empowerment in conflict and post-conflict environments, so they can meaningfully participate in conflict prevention, resolution, peacebuilding, protection, relief and recovery. WPS sub-objectives: 1. Enhanced protection of women and girls in conflict and post conflict environments; 2. Decrease of harmful gender norms which are obstacles to sustainable peace 3. Creating equal leverage in conflict prevention, resolution, peacebuilding, relief and recovery.
