Organisation details

Knowledge institution

Description of your organisation/institution

The JASON Institute for Peace and Security Studies was founded in 1975 by Rio Praaning and Willem van Eekelen. JASON is committed to informing and engaging students and young professionals on issues of international peace and security. The institute organizes events with leading experts from the security field and publishes a yearly magazine featuring in-depth contributions from both emerging voices and established academics.

Accessibility and inclusivity are central to JASON’s mission. All events and publications are free of charge and open to everyone, regardless of sex, gender, cultural and religious beliefs. By fostering open and inclusive dialogue, JASON provides a dynamic platform where the next generation can connect with and learn from today’s experts.

Description of your main WPS related activities

JASON’s activities within the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda focus on advocacy, awareness-raising, and fostering dialogue on gender-sensitive approaches to peace and security. By consistently integrating WPS perspectives across its events and publications, the institute aims to actively promote the importance of gender in security debates and encourages students and young professionals to engage with these issues. JASON strives to ensure that every event incorporates a gender-sensitive approach to the topic at hand. In addition, at least one of its annual events is dedicated specifically to WPS or gender-related themes.

Through lectures, panel discussions, and thematic events, JASON creates accessible spaces to explore the gendered dimensions of conflict, peacebuilding, and security. In doing so, it not only raises awareness but also builds a bridge between established practitioners and a younger audience. By facilitating exchanges with members of the NAP 1325 network, JASON

connects the next generation to existing knowledge, expertise, and initiatives within the WPS community, thereby strengthening both understanding and engagement.
