The Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu (JEBK) is a non profit organization. Our main mission is the conservation of biodiversity, the valorisation of the knowledge and traditions of indigenous people on plants, and the domestication of threatened and neglected plants to improve food security, health, ecological restoration, and to achieve sustainable development in the DR Congo.

Description of your main WPS related activities

At the Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu, human rights and traditional knowledge of indigenous minority are crucial to achieve biodiversity conservation for future generations. In the context of climate change , the rights of indigenous women and men to equal participation and their knowledge will enable sustainable peaceful communities. The Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu advocates for inclusive communities where indigenous minorities women can participate, their expertise promoted by other ethnic groups to safeguard plant resources for food security and forest restoration. Encourage more indigenous women to participate in our programmes to strengthen their leadership in the community. The WPS agenda and its General recommendations are useful instruments for the advocacy.

Description/comments

The Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu foundation provides a space for multi-ethnic women group to achieve leadership and equal participation. If the funding is available, we provide a safe environment for indigenous women and girls to work, learn, and to share their expertise meanwhile developing their skills for socioeconomic independence.
